Combined with the intelligence of snow melting controls, Sno*Melter® Mats provide the ultimate in economical, worry free and reliable snow and ice removal. Installed beneath the surface and appropriately controlled, these cables will heat the surface area above freezing, thereby melting any snow or ice. Pedestrians and vehicles can then move securely on the protected surface. |

Sno*Melter® electric mats are designed to be embedded in concrete or asphalt, either as part of a new installation or when re-paving. Because the snow melting mats operate for relatively short periods each winter, operating costs are less than most other snow and ice removal methods.

Design Options for a Typical 16' x 32'
Driveway

Where to use Sno*Melter
|
![]() |
Operating costs for your area will depend upon the total hours of snowfall and upon the heating capacity you specify. Our recommended heat density of 50 watts (nominal) per square foot provides quick response time, especially when used with automatic control. In most cases, snow will melt at a rate that keeps up with average snowfall, minimizing accumulation of snow on the heated surface. In a heavy snowfall, when snow accumulates at a faster rate, extra heating time will be required for complete removal. Automatic control, set to allow additional running time after snowfall stops, ensures drying the pavement and minimizes icy spots. An electric snow melting system is a practical, economical way of preventing the build-up of ice and snow on steps, walkways, driveways, parking areas, loading docks and even roads.

Compare electric mats with traditional snow removal methods:
Snow*Melter® electric mats are more effective than traditional methods. Just turn on to create a heated surface that melts snow as it falls. There are no moving parts. Properly installed, mats normally provide trouble-free service as long as the pavement or concrete in which they are embedded is not disturbed or damaged. Electric mats provide reliable, convenient snow melting.
How it Works
Cross section drawing illustrates how heating mats
operate within a poured concrete or asphalt slab. Close spacing of
low-temperature heating wire, arrayed to form a mat, is an effective method for
heating pavement, provides fast, economical installation and assures even
distribution of low-temperature heat over the entire surface. This eliminates strips of snow or ice often left by cable systems with a
heating pattern which is too spaced.

Automatic Electric Snow and Ice Melting System
Expect a better solution to clearing snow, ice and freezing rain than plowing, shoveling and salting. It's easy to imagine property damage, time lost to customers or money paid for contracted snow removal. Imagine instead a clear, dry pavement when you need it without using moving parts, chemicals or labor.
For areas small or large, residential or commercial, use Easy Heat's Sno*Melter - an automatic electric system that melts snow and freezing rain on contact with the pavement. Operating only when it needs to, Sno*Melter is efficient and economical. Sno*Melter is UL Listed, too.
A Sno*Melter system includes electrical heating mats placed in either concrete or asphalt. When energized, these mats warm the surface and melt ice and snow, leaving pavement both clear and dry. With a specially designed sensor embedded in the pavement, the Sno*Melter master control box turns the system on and off when needed, automatically.
Applications
Sno*Melter in the driveways of homes, chalets and cottages in the snow-belt use standard sized mats that allow the owner to work with off-the-shelf components, keeping costs to a minimum. Steep or long drives are no longer a snow-removal concern.
Stores, restaurants, banks and libraries install Sno*Melter systems at their pedestrian entries, providing clear, dry paths for their employees and customers -especially the physically challenged. No need to spread salt that shortens the life of carpets inside and corrodes plantings outside. When special finish concrete is used to beautify these areas, then avoiding salt and plow damage becomes more important.
Industrial plants and distribution centers with around-the-clock operations install Sno*Melter in key areas, particularly outdoor loading docks, steps and ramps. Often there is no time or opportunity to plow or salt these busy areas.
Easy to Buy
Easy Heat Sno*Melter systems are sold nationwide through leading electrical distributors. These professionals are supported by a factory staff that translates ideas into detailed plans using CAD digital technology.
Easy to Design
The Sno*Melter system uses highly efficient heating cables manufactured into mats that install quickly and economically. They are placed about 2" below the surface in concrete or asphalt and connected to an electrical power source. Standard Sno*Melter mats, 18" or 36" wide, are used for most walks and driveways, measuring four to thirty feet long, in standard voltages up to 480 VAC. Mats can be cut and shaped to fit curved edges. Custom mats in special sizes and power ratings are available from the factory as well.
Equally important to the design of an efficient installation are the Sno*Melter system's sensor, control box and other specialized controls. When designing or submitting plans for a specific project, East Heat may recommend the appropriate components necessary. A detailed technical guide is available on request.
Easy to Install
Once the design is complete and the products have been purchased, an electrical contractor installs the system. The electrical contractor works closely with the paving contractor prior to paving, test fitting the mats in the forms and routing all power and sensor wiring out of the target area. Following pavement placement, all system components are connected to the power source, operationally prepared for the first snowfall.
Easy to Use
The best feature of the Sno*Melter system is its ease of operation. Once installed and energized, the system is ready for snowfall or freezing rain. The sensor activates the embedded heating mats when it detects the presence of moisture at temperatures below 380F (3.30C). The system continues to melt snow or ice until the pavement is clear and dry. Optional control panel provides a user adjustment permitting system performance to be conformed to wind and accumulation patterns unique to the location/site-by extending operating time (0-10 hours) after snowfall ceases. Irrespective of meteorological conditions, a manual pushbutton allows the system to melt snow blown from adjacent areas or slush deposited by pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

Sno*Melter step-mats

For snow removal from most step shapes, are designed for easy installation without splices. Designed for stair (step) applications. Factory stock in 208 and 240 Volts. Supplied with 10' cold leads standard. Contact us for longer cold leads, other sizes, voltages and watt densities.
