The cable is simply applied to the pipe, either straight along or spiraled, depending on the type of installation, and connected to the power supply. Some cables will require a separate thermostat to control operation, some will not. All pipes should be insulated to provide maximum freeze protection / temperature maintenance and to minimize energy consumption.
