Mor Custom Screw Plug Immersion Heaters

Screw plug immersion heaters are used by the process heat industry for a wide range of applications. This type features a broad selection of screw plug sizes, wattage, materials and junction box types. Screw plug heaters may be threaded directly into a sufficient tank wall or used with a companion coupling.

OPTIONS FOR SCREWPLUG HEATERS
The following options are available on most screwplug heaters. They are intended to provide versatility for a wide range of applications and conditions. Care must be taken in choosing the appropriate heater and options for your particular application. Consult with one of our sales engineers for application assistance.

Sheath Material of Heater and Applications:

  • Copper Sheath - Typical Uses: Hot Water Storage for washrooms, showers, part washing or rinsing, freeze protection of sprinkler systems and cooling towers.
  • 304 Stainless Steel - Typical Uses: Tanks or processes with tar, asphalt, wax, heat transfer fluids, oil and other petroleum products, fuel oil, alcohol, caustic, and other "heavy" mediums.
  • 316 Stainless Steel - Typical Uses: Detergent based cleaning solutions, liquid ammonia, vegetable oil, Deionized water, electroless nickel and other alkaline plating solutions.
  • Titanium - Typical Uses: Seawater, brine, chromic acid, Deionized water.
  • Incoloy® - Typical Uses: Air and many gases, Deionized water and other high temperature processes.
  • Teflon® - Typical Uses: Hydrofluoric acid, ammonia bi-fluoride, Deionized water.

Thermostat Control (Optional):

Type Tl, SPST, 120/240 VAC
• T1A 40°-104°f (4°-40°c), 16 amperes
• T1B 60°-250°f (15°-121°c), 25 amperes
• TIC 175°-550°f (80°-288°c), 25 amperes
• T1Ja 0°-100°f (-18°-38°c) electronic control, 20 amperes
• T1Jb 50°-250°f (10°-121°c) electronic control, 20 amperes

Type T2, DPST, 120-277 VAC, 30 amperes, 480 VAC 10 amperes
• T2A - 60°-250°f (15°-121°c)
• T2B - 175°-550°f (80°-288°c)

Type T3, 3PDT, 120/240 VAC1, 60°-250°f (15°-121°c), 30 amperes
• Type T3 is a three-pole, snap action control. One line is controlled by the dial and is ON continuously whenever the dial moves from OFF. The other two lines are thermostatically controlled and cycle on/off with temperature rise or fall.

Terminal Enclosure Options:

NEMA 1 General purpose, standard on most models, an indoor enclosure intended primarily to prevent accidental contact of personnel with the enclosed electrical connections. Use where oil, dust, water or fumes are not a problem.

NEMA 1 WITH THERMOSTAT
4" x 4" x 4"
(102mm x 102mm x 102mm)

NEMA 4 Water tight and dust tight, indoor/outdoor enclosure intended to protect enclosed electrical connections from splashing water, hose-down, airborne
dust, snow & rain.

NEMA 4X, same as above but enclosure is corrosion resistant for use where fumes or atmosphere is extremely harsh.

NEMA 4 WITH THERMOSTAT
4" x 4" x 3" HIGH
(102mm x 102mm x 76mm)

NEMA 4
4" x 4" x 3" HIGH
(102mm x 102mm x 76i

NEMA 7
EXPLOSION RESISTANT'
3" DIA. x 4" HIGH
(95mm x 63.5mm)

• NEMA 7 Explosion resistant, for use in environments that have been classified "hazardous".

NEMA 7
EXPLOSION RESISTANT*
WITH THERMOSTAT
53/4" DIA. x 4" HIGH
(146mm x 102mm)

High/Low Limit Options:
Type "J" or "K" thermocouple can be attached to sheath to be used with an external control & sayfti™ circuit to provide high or low limit control. ''" note: unless the thermocouple is attached to the upper most element when the heater is installed, it is possible for the heater to be exposed to air and the high limit control to NOT sense a dangerous condition.
A bi-metallic thermoswitch can be provided with a variety of pre-set temperature limits available. * note: this option is to sense a high or low process temperature NOT to act as a safety device for the heater.

Note:

  • Heaters available with special wattage and voltage.
  • Excellent selection for vapor degreasing systems.
  • Low watt density for oil heating.
  • Easily installed with a wrench.
  • Excellent choice for jacketed process tanks.
  • Provides freeze protection in outdoor environment
  • UL Listed and CSA Certified up to 18 KW, 600 VAC
  • Applied for pipeline heating.
  • Prompt delivery.
  • 100% Utilization of energy.
  • Minimum resistance to free flow and circulation to heated solutions.
  • Electropolish available.

Installation Recommendations

  • Select the heater size best suited for your application.
  • Choose the appropriate watt density for the solution.
  • Choose the proper sheath for the solution being heated to avoid corrosion.
  • Uniform heat distribution in larger tanks is enhanced by the use of several heaters rather than one large heater.
  • Protect heaters and tank against liquid level drops with safety controls.
  • Clean heaters periodically to avoid premature failure.
  • Avoid physical damage to heaters.
  • Mount all heaters securely.
  • Use the appropriate terminal box for each application.
  • Select an appropriate temperature control.
  • Electrical wiring should be in accordance with national and local codes.
  • Contact us for any sales or service questions or problems.
